Kasmiera Odele is an ordinary girl attending high school in a small, unremarkable town. Everything changes when she and two other students are tasked with defending Earth Realm from ghouls, ghosts and spirits as well as a shady organisation called the Spirit Order intent on world domination.
Now they must embrace the powers of the Heaven star, Hell star and the Earth Star to rid their town of evil of malevolent spirits while trying to uncover the nefarious plot of the The Spirit Order.
Triad of the Spirit Star centers around three main protagonist: Kasmiera Odele; Guardian of the Earth Star Venus, Shadae Lang; Guardian of the Heaven Star Elysia and Dino Joshi; Guardian of the Hell Star Pandemonia(More info about the team in the characters section).
Each of these girls has been chosen by one of the keepers for their specific personalities and are granted distinct powers based on their star.
Triad of the Spirit Star, follows the traditional monster of the week structure for each episode. A Spirit enters the human realm and possesses one of their classmates and they in turn must use their unique skills to find out what the Spirit wants (their Rule) and eventually send it back to the Spirit realm.
I wanted to have this series feel like a classic magic girl show that aired in the 90s with an emphasis on wacky hijinks, romance and a little darkness every now and then. Speaking of anime:
Triad of The Spirit Star is a visual novel so expect a tonne of reading. On top of that there's also choices to be made that might affect certain events within the game, especially regarding romance. There are three romanceable characters that Kasmeira can end up with though I won’t get into who those are just yet.
There's also exploring to be done as well as puzzles in order to defeat the foe in each episode. Don't worry, I won't make you click around for a code or something, I want everything the player does in the game to be heavily driven by the narrative.
Finally, there's the dress up element. You get to chose clothes for characters at certain points in the story. This one’s just for fun.
Sicily’s blue lips had kissed death so often
The soot of his breath clung between her teeth;
And when she breathed a gust of it went out
And rot the words before they came to me.
