Ambrose lives a quiet, reclusive life in their apartment; rarely visited, never out. His only source of human contact is Ezra, his in-house nurse who comes by everyday to monitor their illness. A welcome change to the silent world Ambrose found himself in.
However, Ambrose's trust is put to the test when they begin to be haunted by dark dreams and far off memories and Ezra seems to know more than he's letting on.
Erosyche was my first foray into creating a visual novel in GDevelop 5 so it's a little undercooked compared to my later works. It didn't even have a functioning UI until I put one in for convenience's sake. But I decided to put part of it out there as a means of documenting my process.
This project was a very important milestone in my game dev journey. Basically the first time I ever used Yarn Editor for the dialogue, a tonne of experimentation with lighting and the transition from day to night(A more perfected version of the lighting system can be seen in Glassheart’s main menu), and some interesting camera work.
I was supposed to submit it to the spooktober Jam but I wasn't happy with the work I'd done and decided not to submit. I remember deleting chunks of this project in a panic before the deadline and trying to create an entirely new story. One can say a bit off more than I could chew trying to create the functionality of a visual novel game and the art and the story and the music in one month. But I’m proud of myself for managing to create something, at the very least.
I do plan on remaking Erosyche in the future with updated designs and a more polished plot. Not now, but sometime in the future after I've finished my next few projects. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this little slice of the story.
Sicily’s blue lips had kissed death so often
The soot of his breath clung between her teeth;
And when she breathed a gust of it went out
And rot the words before they came to me.
